Aluminum Welder

Location: 8111 W Bradley Rd, Milwaukee, WI 53223

Job duties and training will include:

  • Join aluminum metal pieces together with the use of MIG welding techniques
  • Learn different welding types and what works best for the application, and what makes for a quality weld in looks and safety
  • Study shop blueprints and learn how to translate what is drawn to the fabricated piece
  • Be able to coordinate working space with the working space of others
  • Stand up to 10 hours a day Be able to lift at least 50 lbs
  • Good vision to keep a steady eye on the weld
  • Tape measuring skills for accurate measure of material, know the importance of waste prevention
  • Know the limits of the machine Understand average time requirements for production and learn skills to get to that point
  • Grow to an advanced point of working with little to no supervision
Steel Welder

Location: 679 S 76th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53214 (soon to move to 13th and Bolivar)

Drafter / Detailer

Job Description

Be a Drafter / Detailer for Midwest Stairs & Iron, a rapidly growing company. You get to be part of the design process with architects and engineers. Be involved in all facets from submittal drawings to fabrication drawings. You get to forward think about how things work with the finished result and with how the finished piece will impact other construction trades. Learn TEKLA Structures, a 3D design program that is fast becoming an industry standard (often described as a combination of SolidWorks and AutoCAD, just more powerful.)

Job Purpose: Basically, make heads and tails to fabricate what the architect wants, what constructing the building needs, and what the engineer needs us to calc out. It’s more than just lines, it requires thinking backwards and forwards.

Duties:

  • Plans mechanical drawings by reviewing sketches, descriptions, specifications, and supporting documents; conferring with engineers and architects.
  • Prepares mechanical sketches and drawings by rendering sectional, auxiliary, and multiviews, sub-assemblies, pictorials, dimensions, and developments; producing two- and three-dimensional orthographic projections using computer aided design (CAD) and pictorial techniques; producing three-dimensional (3-D) models including 3-D and spherical coordinates.
  • Prepares supporting information by developing bills of materials; standard parts, and fasteners.
  • Modifies drawings by analyzing, resolving, and incorporating changes.
  • Documents work by recording data and drawings; updating databases.
  • Complies with legal requirements by adhering to codes and regulations.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Driver

The following are job responsibilities which will be required:

  • Obtain CDL license
  • Delivery of product (e.g. balconies, tie rods, clevises, etc.) to powder coater (primarily) and other locations
  • Complete and verify paperwork (e.g. check packing lists)
  • Load/Unload trucks
  • Point person to unload outside vendor deliveries (when at shop)—Be aware of shop deliveries from vendors to keep bay area free and clear
    • Inventory counts from vendors if receiving from vendors (as needed), then tag properly
  • Maintenance of assigned equipment (e.g. daily trailer and vehicle inspections, schedule annual DOT inspections through direct report, checking tires, etc.)
  • Reports to Kris/Stephanie – no direction from anyone else, unless verified by Kris/Stephanie
  • Keep loading dock clean
  • Pull trucks in and out every day
  • Be certified to drive forklift
  • Material handling—help move stock, maintain integrity of product (e.g. padding for straps at material contact points, etc.)
  • Quality check product before loading and unloading, every time, any product; take responsibility of quality control assistance (e.g. identify scratches, correct welds, double check packing slip for accuracy before driving, double check types/marks/stamps of material, proper strapping for material type, etc.)
  • Be source of information for Midwest Stairs & Iron while at powder coater for production flow/inventory counts (Conrad does not keep us up to date)

The following are job responsibilities which may be required, along with other responsibilities as required or recommended by you:

  • Assemble tie rods
  • Support daily production operation as dictated by shop foreman (e.g. palletize, wrap and/or package material for shipments, stage cut material for fabricators, saw-cut product, etc.)

  • Keep paperwork complete and organized

  • Be able to lift 50 lbs or more

  • Safe use of tools and equipment
  • Safely operate overhead crane system
  • Keep a CDL log, when required
General Shop Labor

Help out in areas such as drilling, punching, cutting metal. Know how to measure. Be able to lift at least 50 pounds, and stand on your feet during the work hours. This is a great entry level position to get into the manufacturing and construction industries.
